Most of Ben Zechnor’s daily afternoons were only so much for trivial, except for the day he found himself sitting outside an office on EMA quarters. He remained in his seat, looking at the dark tiled floor. His face bloodstained by a cut in his upper temple, and his arms and legs sore and bruised from being beaten by several EMA officers. Before they took him here they informed him of interrogation concerning matters of war plan. He couldn’t help but think what his wife would do if he didn’t come home the usual time. Or if he didn’t come home at all. This made him feel uneasy, and he lowered his head to rest in his hands.
“Dr.Zechnor?” a intercom voice came over the waiting room full of at least six people, all in the same condition as Ben. Ben looked up, at the sound of his name and then stood. “You may go in the door to your right Doctor” the intercom said again. Ben straightened his posture, turned and walked into the door on his right.
Inside the room was a group of chairs rowed in front of the door, if you took a step down past the chairs, there was a simple desk where a man sat guarding another door and an uncomfortable looking arm chair. The man sitting at the desk looked up as Ben walked in and stood up. Pointing to the arm chair, that was surrounded and covered with wires and several metal objects, he said “Please take a seat in here in front of my desk“.
Ben felt a surge of intensity as he took the seat, and immediately as he sat down three men walked from the door near him and took the seats guarding the entrance door. Following that, the man at the desk walked over and commenced on strapping wires around Ben and the chair. Ben’s arms were locked on the arm rest by large thick metal straps. Instantly he felt a sharp sting as a syringe was injected into his upper wrist.
“Dr. Zechnor, I am Doctor Jensen, a former officer and now federal interrogator of the EMA. We have received information from a reliable resource, that you volunteered to a local vigilante party, that planned to overthrow the EMA. Is our information correct?” said the man who was securing him to the chair. Dr Jensen wore shoulder clip badge that embellished the EMA sign of an emerald jewel, and a black strip through it. His sleeves on his white dress shirt were pulled up, as if he had been interrogating all day. Despite his graying hair and wrinkles around his eyes, he appeared to be young, rather than the men sitting above him, also with EMA badges.
Before Ben could answer Dr Jensen pulled an overhead light and shined it in his face
“I-I” Ben wanted to say he didn’t know but the words wouldn’t come out. ‘I’ve been injected with truth serum’ he thought. “I-I only came by a group by accident.” stuttered Ben. The men sitting above gazed down on him curiously. “And….” commented Dr Jensen. Ben paused before he answered. He had to use his story carefully to save his own skin as well his family’s. “I was taking an evening walk, ran into a group of men and thought I overheard something. They caught me eavesdropping and forced me to sign a list. Told me I couldn’t say anything.” Dr. Jensen hesitated and then asked “What did you overhear?” Ben was scared now, in truth he hadn’t heard much, but he wouldn’t risk his neighbors to this interrogation. “I didn’t hear….. H-hardly, much. They discussed something about recruits and the bomb incident…” He stopped instantly there. His eyes widened and he knew that they were getting more out of him than they bargained for. He made it sound like he knew or those in the group knew more information about the mysterious bombing in the town square EMA officer enrollment office.
Dr. Jensen smiled. “Thank you Dr Zechnor.” he motioned for when of the men to come forward. “This will be all the questioning for now. We will be coming to your home shortly this evening. Then we will wait for you to pack some belongings and say good bye to your family. You will then be taken to our head quarters for enrollment to the EMA. We could really use you to the militia.” Dr Jensen began unsecuring him from the chair. Ben could hardly take in to what he was hearing. They were going to take them away? From his family, his well respectable job, and his home? And to where? An enrollment for what? Officer? He couldn’t He wouldn’t. He was unbound and he shakily stood up. All the men in the room seemed pleased. One of them walked forward with a small box, he pulled out a clip on badge and attached it to Ben’s shoulder with a smirk. Ben, shocked, knew he couldn’t arrive home wearing the badge. He had to take his family away, far away. He just couldn’t think as to where. But before he became too deep in to thought he felt a dizzy sensation and an sharp burning ache on his head. He lay sprawled on the floor. A faint voice talked close to his ear “But for one thing, you won’t remember that we will be coming for you. So us coming might be a surprise to you, just in case you try to run away. This….” he felt a strong sting in above his collar bone, “will be sure to make you forget for a few hours.” Said Dr Jensen.
“NO DON’T!! pleeeaasse…” Ben tried to scream. But then his mind went blank and everything turned dark.
